The post on lawyers has made me ponder wtf I’m doing.
You need to know this about me: since as long as I can remember I have always thought that there were as many perspectives as there were human beings, more with dogs and birds and bumblebees… We all have a point of view and truth does not have a capital T. Because of this deep philosophy that I have always lived by, I have deep respect for all the players in the adult industry whether they are the biggest or the smallest. Making dildos takes guts. Making a business takes guts. Standing up for your business takes guts, I know cause I’ve done it. When a Chinese factory started ripping off Tantus’ designs (Silk, Acute, and Charmer) we chased it to a Canadian company (O’My, now gone)- in fact it was another Canadian retailer (Erin the buyer from Stag Shop) who forwarded me the email. But here’s the thing with stories like that… the most poignant moment was when their former employee Sophia, saw me and burst into tears apologizing— THAT was the only moment that counted. My assuring her that I knew she had no power, it wasn’t her decision, holding her in a hug. BTW, I saw Blush ™ had them, so I suspect it was their factory doing white label products (products without logos that can be marketed under any companies name) long before they had a US presence.
There is only one person I disliked in the sex toy industry and he’s dead. It wasn’t his toys that made me hate him, it was something he said. Not that silicone would never sell, he apologized later for that. What he said was very personal and offensive- also illegal.
The old guard of sex toys were profit driven and they paid for those profits. It was an industry that walked a thin line with legal obscenity and they went to jail so that I didn’t have to. I have so much respect.
I have so much respect that it is painful to tell a story where someone, anyone, may look unfavorable. There are no villains here. There are only heroes. Business is hard. Manufacturing is hard. Adulting with Dildos is hard.
Thank you for hearing me out.
I love you so much.
This is a great perspective. Thank you. I'm grateful and proud for the short time I had in the industry. ♥️
